However, I am going on holiday next week and was faced with the choice of making an appointment for waxing or finding a cheaper alternative (my 10 year old epilator had finally died on me). I decided to bite the bullet and purchase a new epilator, thinking I would just have to put up with the agony but THERE WASN'T ANY PAIN!!!!!!

If you have epilated before and are used to the pain you have the option of using the "efficiency pro clip" which removes hair over a larger area and is quicker, but a bit more painful. However, as you'll know, the pain sensation fades really quickly and it is worth using this attachment if you are in a hurry or have a large area to de-fuzz.

I have only recently entered the world of removing unwanted hair. I tried shaving, & it just irritated my skin & caused nasty spots, i then moved on to waxing, which the first time i done it was good, but then i found i had 2 wait for the hairs to get too long before i could do a proper job again. So finally i did a bit of research & dubiously bought this. I am so pleased!! It works fantastically, removing all my unwanted hairs & they weren't even that long! My skin looks so smooth & sexy. I was scared on my first use & yes there was a slight pain but its not even worth worrying about, no pain no gain. I cant emphasize how much i recommend this product.

Rating: - Braun 2170 - my little life-saver!
I purchased this epilator after much consideration and comparison, particularly over more expensive "all singing, all dancing" models that come with numerous attachments, ice packs, etc. And I'm so pleased that (for once in my life) I decided in favour of the cheaper option!

Having shaved ever since I can remember and having never used epilator or waxed before I was naturally a bit worried about the pain. I do not have a very high pain threshold. Well, I can now report that the pain is not anywhere near as bad as I had feared! In fact, I wouldn't even call it pain, it's more of a tingle. One the scale of 1 to 5, where 5 is the most painful, this is how I would rate it: legs - 1, underarms - 2, bikini area - 4 (eventually 3). I had slight irritaion and redness after first time, on which I applied some aloe vera gel and it went very quickly. The bikini area is obviously the most sensitive one, and the first time I tried epilating it, I had to take deep breaths, but still persevered, and it paid off, second time around was definitely less painful and perfectly bearable. It was all worth it when I examined the epilator head and cried tears of joy when I saw those nasty hairs - all taken out with roots! Not only that, I was never able to achieve such smoothness, especially on my underarms, when shaving. The hairs are regrowing much slower now, too, I only bought this about 3 weeks ago and have not had any horrible stubble on my legs that I used to get within hours when I used to shave.

The 2170 has a massager-type attachment, which I'm not sure helps a lot, but anyway, does no harm. I tried taking it off and epilating without it, and didn't notice much difference. But I left it on, anyway. I feel no need whatsoever for anything on top of that. I do think that all those ice packs and extra attachments would be superfluous. I'm glad I didn't get a package with any of those, as the actual epilator would be exactly the same and fiddling with all those extra thingies would only waste my time and I would end up not using them anyway. This epilator is perfectly adequate to do its job with minimal pain, honestly.

My only regret is that I wasted years shaving, hating the unstoppable stubble, fighting ingrown hairs, when the alternative was so simple.

PS In retrospect, I'm really quite surpised at the negative review below, it sounds as if we are talking about different items altogether! I'm glad I wasn't put off by it. Sorry it hasn't worked for you.

Rating: - Easy to use, effective and relatively painless
I had an old Braun epilator which was very painful to use. When I discovered this one, it was like a breath of fresh air. It is very effective, easy to use and hurts just a little but not as bad as waxing even on armpits and bikini lines. Technology does progress after all.

Rating: - I'm hooked on my epilator!
My Braun EverSoft Solo is a life saver! It's really quick and easy to use and it means I don't have to think about shaving my legs for up to a month at a time. And another big bonus is that you don't need to cover up your legs when the hair starts regrowing as it removes really short hairs as well, so you can get rid of stubble straight away.

The first time I used the epilator I got a slight tingle but once I used it a couple of times there was no tingling at all.

When I used to shave my tan faded quickly because the razor took my tan off with the hair but this epilator doesn't remove skin with your hair, so it's been great at keeping my legs tanned!

I wouldn't go back to shaving or waxing now - I'm really hooked on my epilator!
