I previously had an old generation silk epil,but after many years it has come to the end of it's life. The pain was bearable with the old one, but the new silk epil is completly pain free. Brilliant. Never could bring myself to go further than my knees before, because my thighs are more sensitive, but with this one its fine. Best of all worlds - quick and easy, no cuts, pain free, no mess, no waiting for regrowth. Just roll on summer and short skirts this year!

My daughter is driving hubby to distraction using all his disposable razors.....to the extent I thought we would have murder in the house.......she uses at least 6 per shaving session, so I thought trying this out if works would be a miracle......WOW, apart from hearing her yelling out with the initial pain everytime she uses it, it is completely hair free, I got her a little mat to put underneath her legs which can be shook out afterwards, as the hairs fall onto it, she has used it for a few sessions and shaves less, so that part is true, the pain is not unbearable, it is just the initial getting the angle right. easy to clean and store, I would highly recommend it, my hubby sends his gratitude to Braun!!!

Rating: - Not as bad as u think (don't be put of by the scary noise!)
I had heard wonderful things about epilators and decided to go for it. The solo (pink) was £5 cheaper as it didn't have the ice pack and 'starter kit' of the other Braun (blue), but having read some of the other reviews on Amazon (which were really helpful in choosing) it seemed the ice pack wasn't that great anyway.
When I first switched it on the noise I've got say was scary, (turbo charged lawnmower springs to mind), but when I actually pressed the epilator to my legs I was very pleasantly surprised, its a pain-you-can-bear that I've quickly got used to. I progressed up to bikini line and was even more surprised that it wasn't that bad either (although the fact that there is less surface area to cover certainly helped). Underarms have been attempted and are the most painful but I'm hanging in there for that extra bout of bravery to get them done!
An all round great product - I can't wait to not have to shave everyday! Every woman who gets sick of shaving should have one and at such a reasonable price - I bet I'd spend that much on razors in a couple of months!
PS - Moisturising with really thick moisturiser STRAIGHT afterwards really helped soothe any redness.

Rating: - Braun SP3170 Epilator - Solo
A great Epilator and for a reasonable price. I have just used this for the first time and must admit it was much easier and less painful than I imagined.
You must hold it correctly as shown in the leaflet and I had done one leg in just 15 mins. It feels similar to the waxing sensation and once its done yes you have a little stinging sensation just like after waxing, but this soon disappears.
I was watching the hairs coming out and I saw the root which I am very pleased about as its obviously doing exactly what it says on the box!!!
The downside with this epilator is the noise, it isnt very quiet. Also the hair falls to the floor as you are doing it so having a towel on the floor is a good idea or a hoover to clear up afterwards.
But overall I am very happy with the results from the first use and totally recomend to anyone to purchase this item. I cant see why you would need the more expensive versions as they all do the same job so in my opinion this is great value for money.

Rating: - Truly impressed with Braun
I bought this model to replace my mid-90s Braun Silk-Epil, which conked out after a mere decade. I used my old one regularly with no problems, but I have really noticed the difference in the newer model. There is a real reduction in pain, and I didn't think it was that bad on the last one - I'm used to epilators anyway, having started on the 80s Epilady (and that did hurt!). I am so impressed. I can now do my bikini line without having to feel slightly masochistic and girding my loins. I would recommend it to anyone.

It's also good value. In another decade or so when I replace this one I expect it will feel like being pelted with marshmallows.
